Proverbs 3:5-6

ESV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

When I read this verse, it hits home in so many ways. "Trust in the Lord". Easy to say, but so hard to do. Why is that? Cause it goes against my instinct to trust in something I can't see. Which means my faith is tried everyday when I try to trust in the Lord. Trust is huge, and so many books have been written on this subject. But King Solomon puts it simply. He doesn't say to trust in money, trust in investments, trust in the leadership of America, but says trust in the Lord. That's the only place we need to put our trust. But wait, Solomon says to trust with all my heart. Wow. So its hard to trust in the Lord, but that makes it so much harder, and makes me realize that trust isn't just a mind decision, but a decision of the heart. It goes beyond what we think and into our soul. Trust the Lord with everything you got. Don't partially trust, but wholeheartedly trust. But that's not the end. This passage is packed.

Do not lean on your own understanding. Humans are fools. Would you want to lean on a fool? On a fools understanding? I wouldn't yet I do. I lean on my own all the time. I push Jesus out and tell Him that I got this one, when I really don't. Understanding comes from the Lord, and from the Lord alone. No two ways about it. Lean on His perfect understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him. In all my ways. In everything I do. In all that I say. In all that I think. In all that I believe. Acknowledge the Lord. This doesn't mean just to know that He is there, but acknowledge that He is my Heavenly Father, my All in All, my Everything. My trust should be placed there, my understanding should come from Him. And if I do this, He will make my paths straight. My path guided by me looks like the roads in Greenville, South Carolina: Spaghetti. All over the place, with no definite end. The Lord will straighten them out like wire, but I have to make Him top in my life.

Wow. Lots to think on. I've read this passage a hundred times, but you don't think about it that much unless you read and re-read it. And then write about it. Conviction city. I need to trust more, ask for more understanding, and acknowledge God the Lord the time. How about you? You walking with the Lord wholeheartedly? Or just throwing your trust out to whatever will take it? Leaning on whatever looks solid? I hope not. Lean on the Lord. Trust in in the Lord. Acknowledge the Lord. With all your heart. In all your ways. And He will make your paths straight. Pretty simple right?
